22 February 2012:  Pop sensations Westlife have landed in China as they kick off a farewell tour tonight set to earn them a cool €5 million.

The group will play in seven different cities across China for the final time in their 14 year history.

Westlife landed in the capital Beijing yesterday morning where they held their first press conference in advance of their show in the 18,000 capacity MasterCard Centre in the city tonight.

"We're going to a whole lot of new cities on this tour for the first time - we're playing in four new cities in China on this occasion," said Kian Egan yesterday. The latest Westlife tour will also visit the cities of Hangzhou, Chendu, Guangzhou, Shanghai and Hong Kong during the tour which continues until March 3.

They will play to audiences of 15,000 plus fans with tickets to the concerts priced between €34 and €205. Kian admitted that their popularity is on the rise in China. "We were there last year and did four arenas of 15,000 each," he said. "They were great gigs. This time around, we'll be doing seven shows and the arenas are the same size, so it's amazing."

He added: "We broke through there with You Raise Me Up which was in 2005. We hadn't been back till last year but this is a phenomenal set up. The language barrier doesn't seem to make any difference - they still sing the words to all the songs."

Westlife's farewell tour in this part of the world kicks off in London's O2 arena in May and it will bring them around the UK to all the major cities including Cardiff, Birmingham and Glasgow. The tour also includes five nights in Belfast's Odyssey Arena before they head to Croke Park in Dublin for two massive concerts. Their last scheduled date is currently June 23 in Croke Park, which is sold out.
